NITROGEN



Nitrogen (N2) constitutes 78% of the atmospheric air which we breathe.  Nitrogen is used as a gas for its inertness and a liquid for cooling, freezing and preservation.  It is colorless and tasteless, not flammable.

OXYGEN

Oxygen (O2) is present in abundance in nature, the Oxygen represents in weight 21% of the air we breathe.  It is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas.  It is essential for life and highly reactive with metals and other substances.

ARGON

 

Argon (Ar) is present in atmospheric air in very small quantity (about 0.9%). It is colorless, odorless gas and highly inert (non-reactive) like Nitrogen.

Common applications include:

 

  • Inerting (shielding to avoid Oxidation of metals/pigments).
  • Limits the proliferation of bacteria.
  • Food preservation
  • Tig and Mig welding

CARBON DIOXIDE

 

Gaseous Carbon Dioxide (CO2) has a slightly irritating smell, is colorless and heavier than air.  It freezes at -78.5ºC and forms dry ice.  It is soluble in water.  AHG produces CO2 by burning excess of air with Hydrocarbon fuel.

ACETYLENE

 

Acetylene (C2H2) is produced from the reaction of the calcium carbide with water.  It is colorless, has pronounced garlic like smell, highly combustible.  It produces a very warm flame (more of 3000ºC or 5400ºF) in the presence of Oxygen.

Oxy-Acetylene flame is classified as the hottest and most concentrated primary flame of all industrial fuel gases, making Acetylene the preferred choice for cutting and welding.  Main application of Acetylene in industry is for welding and cutting of metals.

AMMONIA

 

AHG procures Anhydrous Ammonia (NH3) from a source and produces Aqueous Ammonia (NH4OH).  Both Anhydrous and Aqueous Ammonia are available at AHG.  Ammonia is colorless, nonflammable, liquefied gas with a detectable odor.

Common applications include:

 

  • Refrigeration units

  • Special chemicals

HYDROGEN

 

Hydrogen (H2) is present in the atmosphere as traces. At AHG, Hydrogen is produced by electrolysis of water.  Hydrogen is colorless, highly flammable, very light gas.  It does not sustain life and reacts easily in the presence of other chemical substances.  Many industries such as electronics, foods, chemicals, refining, etc. can benefit from its unique properties.

HELIUM

 

Helium (He) is present in earth’s atmosphere in traces.  We find it under fossil state in natural gas fields, in oil-fields in certain regions of Africa, Europe and North America.  Helium is extremely light gas.  It is colorless, odorless, incombustible and totally inert.

Common applications include:

  • Cooling of magnet used in MRI machines
  • Balloon inflation
  • Leak detection
  • Electronics
  • Breathing mixtures for divers

NITROUS OXIDE

 

Nitrous Oxide (N2O) is produced by thermal decomposition of Ammonium Nitrate. It is a colorless gas (at room temperature and atmospheric pressure) having sweet odor. It is non toxic simple asphyxiant and anesthetic gas.  It is a Middle Oxidizer and supports combustion.

Nitrous Oxide is used mainly for hospital applications.  Another common application is Nitro booster in high speed racing cars.

SPECIALTY GASES

 

Specialty gases represent gases which are rare or ultra high purity (99.995% and above), as well as special multi-component mixtures used for calibration, process or laboratory. 

Available in various packaging from disposable lecture bottles to conventional cylinders. Many industries including analytical, pharmaceutical, electronics and petrochemical benefit from the unique properties of specialty gases.

  2. Cylinder Serial Number. *
  3. Manufacturing Symbol with Date. *
  4. Product Symbol. *
  5. Owner’s Identifying Symbol/Name.
  6. Re-Test Marking. *
  7. Volume in Liters.
  8. Tare Weight.

Product Identification

 

Product in cylinder are identified by cylinder label or by stenciling the product name on the cylinder like:

  1. DOT Classification of Product.
  2. Cautionary Instructions.
  3. Company’s Name, Logo/Address.
  4. Name of Product and UN No.

Product in Transport Tankers are identified by marking on each side and rear back of the tanker as shown below:

Grade Identification

 

Purity grade are 3 digit figure X.XX

 

First digit indicate the number of “9” in the Assay (as %) of a gas grade in the 6 digits format of YY.YYYY

 

Second digit is the last digit in the Assay of a gas grade.

 

Third digit normally one of the following 4 words A. B. C & S indicate test and certification status of the particular grade.

 

  1. Stands for individually tested cylinder certification is available.   
  2. Stand for batch tested cylinder only QC tags are attached to individual cylinder.
  3. Cylinders are only tested at the rate of 1 per lot filled in any one shift. No certification or QC tag is provided.   
  4. Special grades cylinder are tested for Assay & contaminants as per customer request.    Certificate is issued as required.


For Example

      Oxygen Grade 5.5 A

First 5 indicate that Assay in percentage have Five “9” and last digit is 5. Thus Assay for this grade may be read as 99.9995%. “A” indicate the individual cylinder will be tested for compliance and certificate will be available on request.
